Listed below are the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies projects Senator Blumenthal has submitted to the Senate Appropriations Committee. The Senate Appropriations Committee selects the final projects from the projects submitted by all senators. Therefore, neither submission of an application nor Senator Blumenthal’s approved list of projects are guaranteed for final funding.

  • Amount Requested: $1,425,000
  • Funding will be used to expand the College's technology infrastructure to support student's technological education and access to experiential learning and training; the funding will support the creation of computer labs, technology lending libraries, and an internship program.

  • This program targets kids 8-14, or 14- young adulthood designed to keep kids off the streets and assist community members looking for employment by hosting fitness/recreation programs, a career explorer program, a career development program, and managing a community garden.

  • This funding would support the activities of the Afterschool Enrichment Program at the Boys and Girls Club Meriden. The Program supports at-risk youth through a variety of services, including meal supports, mental health support, tutoring, music lessons, arts enrichment, sports, etc.

  • Funding would be used to replace the boiler system in the facility to ensure that Bridges can continue to safely serve their patient population, correct a flooding issue in the basement, and improve energy efficiency.

  • This project will help Reading Is Fundamental implement a high-quality plan to support childhood literacy that includes book distributions, literacy activities, teacher support, and parent involvement, reaching an estimated 19,500 elementary children.

  • Amount Requested: $100,000
  • This project will support the expansion of RE-Center’s work, which largely consists of providing teachers at all levels with the equity-centered professional development needed to address race-based achievement gaps in Connecticut’s public schools. The program also supports youth via Equity Teams for Positive School Change to work with administrators and teachers to create equitable school environments, with a specific lens on addressing racism and inequity.

  • This project will support the addition of mindfulness workshops in the United Way's eight Positive Youth Development Afterschool programs.   • Funds will support the development of Prosperi-Key, a new web-based platform that will connect low-income families with businesses and services that will provide them with discounts and supports.

  • Funding would be used to expand three health professions training programs through a recruitment program with UCHC and HCBUs, increasing the number of Black students training to become health professionals.
