(Washington, DC) – Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement this afternoon on Virginia class submarine funding in President Obama’s budget proposal for FY 2012:
“I am encouraged to see that the President has proposed sustaining a critically-important commitment to funding the Virginia class submarine – two are proudly built in Groton each year. These submarines will preserve and enhance the Navy’s ability to operate in coastal waters and support special operations forces.
“Any proposed cuts to Department of Defense programs in the President’s budget must reduce wasteful spending while maintaining our security priorities and military readiness. As we work to rebuild our economy, curtail spending, and reduce our debt and deficit, I will continue to review the details of the President’s budget to make sure that we are set on the right economic course for Connecticut, our nation, and, most importantly, for future generations.”
