Senator Blumenthal Praises Release of $40 Million in High Speed Rail Funds to Connecticut

(Washington, DC) – Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Transportation announced that the Federal Railroad Administration will release a $40,000,000 High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail (HSIPR) grant to ConnDOT:

“I am pleased that the U.S. Department of Transportation recognizes Connecticut’s strong, continued commitment to improving high speed rail– a critical driver of economic growth and job creation. I look forward to continuing to work with my delegation colleagues and Governor Malloy to secure additional funding that creates jobs and eases the serious congestion and transportation issues troubling Connecticut.”

The $40,000,000 in funding had been allocated for the state of Connecticut under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as of January 2010, but had not yet been awarded to the state.
