Lieberman, Blumenthal Statement On Release Of Federal Disaster Relief Bill

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Senators Joseph I. Lieberman and Richard Blumenthal issued the following statement regarding the release of the Senate Appropriations Disaster Assistance Supplemental:

“We appreciate the sense of urgency demonstrated by Senate Leadership and Senate Appropriators with tonight’s release of a Supplemental Appropriations bill to assist in the recovery from Supertstorm Sandy. This substantial package is an important first step on the road to rebuilding Connecticut, the tri-state area, and all states impacted by the storm. As in the wake of past disasters, we must quickly pass this Supplemental and aid those in need without any unnecessary delays. We urge our fellow Senators, and our colleagues in the House, to act boldly and swiftly pass this significant package and send it to the President so we can continue to rebuild.”

The Senate Appropriations Committee today released the text of the Disaster Assistance Supplemental, a $60.4 billion bill that would provide aid to the communities affected by Superstorm Sandy. The legislation will potentially be considered by lawmakers this week.
