CT Delegation Announces $9.8 Million In Home Heating Relief

(Hartford, CT) – Today, the Connecticut Congressional Delegation announced $9,828,252 for Connecticut’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released 90 percent of the state’s total FY2014 LIHEAP funds in November under the Continuing Resolution of 2014. Today’s nearly $10 million figure represents almost all of Connecticut’s remaining LIHEAP funds for this fiscal year, which total $77,412,553.

“As freezing temperatures continue to plague the region, Connecticut families, now more than ever, deserve the comfort of knowing their homes will remain heated through the worst of the winter season,” said the delegation. “Unfortunately, due to sequestration, this vital program’s future funding remains under unnecessary threat. We applaud HHS for releasing the remainder of this year’s LIHEAP funds, and we will continue to fight to preserve funding for this program, which helps more than 100,000 Connecticut residents annually.”

Connecticut families wishing to apply for LIHEAP funding may go to the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program website or call (800) 842-1508 to get more information about the program and application process.
