[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, voted today to approve the nomination of Gina Raimondo to be Secretary of the Department of Commerce:
“As a founding backer of the Green New Deal, I applaud Gina Raimondo’s support for protecting our oceans and other vital natural marine environments—a Blue New Deal. She is committed to restoring and strengthening scientific integrity at NOAA and across the Commerce Department, and understands the need to preserve pristine ecosystems like the Northeast Canyons and Seamount Marine National Monument. She also recognizes the value of training programs to match more workers with skilled opportunities like those at Groton’s Electric Boat. I look forward to working with her to protect our oceans and shorelines, combat the effects of climate change, boost trade and industry, and help our workforce and businesses.”
