Blumenthal Votes Against Republican Spending Bill

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement today after voting against the Republican House spending bill:

“The Republican House bill slashes billions from community budgets for police officers, firefighters, and teachers and critical federal investments in the NIH’s cancer and Alzheimer’s research. It cedes unwarranted, broad, unbridled discretion to President Trump, creating in effect a personal slush fund. Republicans decided to barrel forward with this reprehensible and reckless bill without making any effort at bipartisan legislating.

“I’m appalled by Senate Republicans’ rejection of an amendment I helped champion to bring tens of thousands of veterans back to work after being illegally fired. Now more than ever, veterans need protections from Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s reckless, relentless attacks across the federal government, and Republicans have failed them once again.”

“The only opportunity I had to participate in this process is how I choose to vote, and I cannot support a measure that would devastate our state. I know people are angry, and I am, too. But I will never stop fighting for the people of Connecticut, for the values we share, and for what our communities need and deserve.”
