Blumenthal Urges United Nations to Include Provisions for Evacuation of At-Risk Afghan Allies in Taliban Negotiations

[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) wrote Secretary of State Tony Blinken and Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Green, to share his support for providing additional humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and to urge the United Nations to demand provisions to allow for the evacuation of at-risk Afghan allies during its negotiations with the Taliban for governmental assistance.

“As the United States coordinates with the United Nations to provide aid and services for Afghanistan, I urge you to include provisions for the evacuation of at-risk Afghan allies to the United States,” Blumenthal wrote. “Continued safe passage for military translators, civil servants, humanitarian workers, and others who supported the U.S. mission in Afghanistan should be included in any agreement between the United Nations and the Taliban.”
