[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, will join a bipartisan senate delegation led by U.S. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK) to attend the Munich Security Conference (MSC). The MSC, largely considered to be the Atlantic’s leading forum for international security policy, operates as a setting for diplomatic initiatives to cooperatively address the world’s most pressing security concerns.
“The Munich Security Conference comes at a critical time for our Western alliance,” said Blumenthal. “After championing vital aid for Ukraine in the Senate, I am eager to speak with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the need for continued American leadership defending freedom in Ukraine. I will seek to reassure both President Zelenskyy and our European allies represented at the conference that we will fight for House approval of this security assistance to Ukraine and Israel as soon as possible. In the wake of the tragic death of Alexei Navalny and as Putin continues his unprovoked invasion in Ukraine, now more than ever we must come together with our allies to stand in opposition to this murderous thug and his scourge against democracy.”
The MSC brings together nearly five-hundred leaders and high-level decision makers from around the world, including heads of state, legislators, ministers, leaders of international organizations and non-governmental organizations, and leaders from business, media, research, and civil society. The MSC fosters an environment of collaboration for these leaders where initiatives and solutions are developed and opinions are exchanged.
Senators traveling to the MSC include U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI), U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), U.S. Senator Reverand Raphael Warnock (D-GA), and U.S. Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH).
