(Washington, DC) — Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) announced that he will chair the Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation, and Export Promotion – a subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce that focuses on strengthening the competitiveness of U.S. industry, promoting trade and investment, and ensuring fair trade and compliance with trade laws and agreements. The Subcommittee also focuses on innovation and manufacturing.
“This leadership position is an exciting opportunity to help spur job creation and economic growth in Connecticut and around America by leveling the competitive field for our exports, enhancing rewards for innovation, and attracting more tourist visitors,” Blumenthal said. “American manufacturing, especially in Connecticut, is poised for resurgence – empowered by sound policies that I hope this subcommittee will encourage. A preeminent goal is to encourage exports of all goods and services.”
Blumenthal added, “I look forward to working with the Department of Commerce to ensure they have the resources they need to successfully fulfill their mission of strengthening the U.S. economy and promoting job growth. I also look forward to working with Chairman Rockefeller, whose confidence I deeply appreciate.”
Blumenthal is beginning his first year on the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce. He is also the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Federal Rights and Agency Action, a subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary.
