(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) announced that he will chair the Armed Services Airland Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over matters relating to certain Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps programs, as well as research, development, and procurement matters involving these military branches.
“This critically important subcommittee will play a key role in reshaping the military as we enter the post Iraq/Afghanistan war era. It will help determine the aircraft flown, ground vehicles driven, and other essential equipment used to by our brave men and women in uniform. The subcommittee will be instrumental in properly protecting our National Guard and rescue forces and looking ahead to prepare our military for warfare challenges of the future. As chairman of the subcommittee, I look forward to working closely with the Connecticut National Guard and servicemen and woman across the country from a platform that oversees defense programs such as Blackhawks and Joint Strike Fighters, which are supported by tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs in my home state.”
Blumenthal will no longer chair the Judiciary Subcommittee on Oversight, Federal Rights and Agency Actions as a result of his new subcommittee chairmanship. More information on the Airland Subcommittee can be found here.
