(Hartford, CT) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Ranking Member of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, issued the following statement on Volkswagen’s (VW) confirmation to U.S. regulators that additional undisclosed emission-control software is installed on VW’s 2016 diesel vehicles:
“Federal officials should take immediate action to protect the public from additional defective cars. New sales of defective cars should be barred until there is effective corrective action and complete and truthful disclosure. VW owes the EPA and the public, immediate information and cooperation. Its record of concealment and deception makes decisive action especially necessary. Consumers deserve the facts now, not in the indefinite future, and vigorous scrutiny and sanctions are vital.”
