Blumenthal Statement on Vote to Keep Government Open

(WASHINGTON, DC) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement after voting in favor of a short-term spending bill to keep funding the government until December 11, 2015. The bill passed the Senate by a vote of 78-20.

I voted today to keep the government open and reject Congressional dysfunction. This stopgap measure is not ideal – a new deadline looms in December – and we cannot routinely govern by crisis. I will continue to fight for long-term solutions that put people back to work, repair our crumbling infrastructure and tackle head on the spiral of student loan debt. Shutting down the government for political reasons is never the answer – it is irresponsible and dangerous.”
