[Hartford, CT] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) today released the below statement following the announcement that Vanessa Avery will step down as United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut:
“I regret, but fully understand, Vanessa Avery’s departure, and I am grateful for her dedicated, highly successful service as U.S. Attorney. Her leadership has been insightful and incisive – inspiring to her excellent team working to protect public safety and the rule of law. I hope to make recommendations, along with my colleague Senator Murphy, to President-elect Trump, based on merit and guided by our bipartisan selection committee.”
Today, U.S. Attorney Vanessa Avery announced that she will resign from the Office effective at 11:59 p.m. on January 17, joining other top federal prosecutors in resigning before President-elect Donald Trump is sworn into office again.
U.S. Attorney Vanessa Avery was appointed by President Biden after confirmation by the United States Senate and sworn in as the 54th U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut on May 9, 2022, serving as the first Black woman to lead the office in Connecticut.
