(Hartford, CT) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) today released the following statement on the report by the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of the Inspector General on the Veterans Health Administration (VHA):
“This report is staggering in the scope and scale of fraudulent scheduling schemes that denied veterans the medical care they need and deserve. These stunning revelations call into question the accuracy and reliability of information provided to Congress on VHA wait time performance. As I have urged for some time, a new management team and accountability are necessary immediately at the VHA. The Inspector General’s recommendations for action should be implemented today, without delay, even as the investigation proceeds, so veterans’ health care is made the priority. This additional evidence of fraud heightens the need for a prompt and effective criminal investigation.”
Blumenthal is a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs.
