Blumenthal Statement on U.S. Surpassing 600,000 Coronavirus Deaths

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after Johns Hopkins University announced that more than 600,000 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States – the most of any nation in the world:

“Over a year into the pandemic and our country has surpassed another unthinkable milestone—600,000 lives taken from us too soon by this insidious virus. My heart breaks for the families and loved ones of the more than 8,200 lost in Connecticut alone.”

“For many Americans, life may be returning to normal as vaccines become accessible and restrictions ease. But for the millions who have been touched by the loss of a loved one, friend, or neighbor, the devastating pain and hardship of the last fifteen months remains all too real.”

“Even as we seem to be turning the corner in the fight against the virus, we cannot forget those who are no longer with us. The mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles who will always be in our hearts and minds. Today, we pay tribute to their memory and honor them with action, as we all continue to do our part to beat the pandemic.”
