Blumenthal Statement on Trump's Rescission of Draconian & Devastating Funding Freeze

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement on the Office of Management and Budget rescinding its memo illegally freezing federal grants:

“This one-line walking our country back from the cliff of national disaster is the result of massive outcry from real people seeing real damage in their everyday lives from President Trump’s cruel, dictatorial seizure of power. But the stark reality remains: if they did it once, they can do it again. I have heard from countless individuals and groups in Connecticut who suffered intense anxiety and fear during the chaos of the last 48 hours. It was theft and corruption – looting community health centers and domestic violence shelters to finance tax cuts for billionaires. Left in place are still a set of illegal and immoral actions like the hiring freeze, the firing of Inspectors General, and a raft of lawless Executive Orders. These reckless actions amount to a seizure of power putting our nation on a path to tyranny. We will need Americans in red states and blue states to be vigilant and vigorous in protecting our democracy.”

Senator Blumenthal issued the following new statement in response to this update“As I said before, if they did it once, they can do it again – and it looks like they already have. This federal funding freeze is theft and corruption – looting community health centers and domestic violence shelters to finance tax cuts for billionaires. These reckless actions amount to a seizure of power putting our nation on a path to tyranny. More than ever, we will need Americans in red states and blue states to be vigilant and vigorous in protecting our democracy. These whiplash reversals only exacerbate the confusion and chaos— and amplify disruption and damage to essential services.”
