[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) issued the following statement after President Trump announced the administration’s planned weakening of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) protections:
“Trump is fooling no one by gutting a core environmental law under the guise of accelerating infrastructure. NEPA reviews help Americans protect themselves from polluting projects in their backyards, and give communities of color an important regulatory voice when polluters impact them. Yet this administration has once again shamefully – but unsurprisingly – sided with corporate contaminators, giving them virtually unchecked discretion to demolish communities for pipelines, oil, and other destructive developments. NEPA protections are essential and must be preserved. I won’t stop fighting against this administration’s brazen attacks on our environment and the vulnerable.”
