Blumenthal Statement on Trump Expansion of Offshore Drilling

[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) issued the following statement following the Trump Administration’s announcement it will permit offshore oil and gas drilling in most United States waters, including protected areas in the Arctic and Atlantic.

“This disastrous and irresponsible proposal has the potential to devastate economies and environments up and down the east coast,” said Blumenthal. “Our coastline should be protected as a vital tourism, fishing, and environmental resource – not exposed to the dangers of oil spills or drilling pollution. President Trump’s blatant effort to benefit Big Oil must be met with renewed determination from Congressional allies to protect waterways like the Sound for future generations.”
