[HARTFORD, CT] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) today released the following statement on the Trump Administration's recent decision to freeze all federal grants including those already approved by Congress and signed into law:
“This draconian halt in federal assistance threatens to disrupt and decimate public safety organizations, health care providers, research facilities, and innumerable other public interest groups serving communities and urgently important causes. Yesterday I visited with Connecticut farmers to celebrate millions of dollars in a federal grant program for their recovery and rebuilding from recent natural disasters. They may not see this promised assistance for months if ever. Further, people receiving crucial food assistance may go hungry. This order may be depicted as temporary, but it will do permanent harm. As currently framed, it seems legally unsustainable. No President can simply stop programs properly funded by Congress. I will fight to reverse this reckless, lawless harmful dictatorial order,” said Blumenthal.
