[HARTFORD, CT] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced that previously scheduled “operational changes” to the U.S. Postal Service would be delayed until after the election, but failed to address how the harm caused by previously implemented funding cuts and staffing changes would be mitigated:
“This Postmaster General has zero credibility, so Congress must still act. Delays, cutbacks, and downsizing of the U.S. Postal Service have already taken a toll. Postmaster General DeJoy still has to answer for the policies he’s already implemented that have delayed the delivery of critical medications, small businesses’ products, utilities bills, and voting materials.”
“Senator McConnell should call back the full Senate to save USPS. America deserves action, starting with the full funding necessary for on time delivery and voting-by-mail.”
