Blumenthal Statement on the Nomination of Pete Buttigieg to be Secretary of Transportation

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), a member of the Senate Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee, released the following statement after President-elect Joe Biden announced that he would nominate Mayor Pete Buttigieg to be Secretary of Transportation:

“No one knows what a well-paved road or new bridge means to a community better than its mayor. Local officials are the very first to hear about bad traffic patterns, slow trains, or too-small airport terminals. As Mayor of South Bend, Pete Buttigieg knows exactly what it means to be on the front lines developing and implementing new infrastructure initiatives and modern transportation systems. A major, historic investment in our crumbling infrastructure must be a top priority for the Biden Administration, and will require vision and leadership from a new Transportation Secretary. I look forward to speaking with Mayor Buttigieg about his vision for the Department of Transportation and how he plans to work with Congress to achieve it.”
