Blumenthal Statement on the For the People Act

[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after Senate Republicans blocked a procedural vote to begin debate on the For the People Act (S. 1), comprehensive legislation to strengthen our democracy:

“There is nothing more fundamental to a functioning democracy than the right to vote. Ruthless state restrictions on access to the ballot box pose an existential threat to the future of our country. Dark money has corrupted our elections, prioritizing wealthy special interests over American votes. Democrats are united in recognizing the urgency of this crisis and in our commitment to solving it. Today’s vote was only the first step – talks and negotiations will continue.”
