“The President in that chamber was more a Divider-in-Chief than a unifier,” said Blumenthal. “After the lofty rhetoric, tonight’s speech was mostly red meat partisan applause lines. There were vacuous promises but few specifics on issues like infrastructure, opioid addiction, veterans and other key issues. Sadly, he continued a hostage taking immigration policy by denying Dreamers a path to citizenship without policies that rip apart families and terrorize immigrant communities.”
Blumenthal brought Theresa Leonard, a sex trafficking survivor and advocate, as his guest to the State of the Union. Blumenthal is a lead co-sponsor of the Stop Enabling Sex Trafficking Act, a narrowly crafted, bipartisan bill that would ensure that websites that facilitate sex trafficking can be held liable and brought to justice.
