Blumenthal Statement on Senate Passage of Comprehensive Sanctions Bill

[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) issued the following statement after Senate passage of comprehensive sanctions against Russia, Iran, and North Korea. Blumenthal has been actively calling for increased, strict sanctions against Russia for interference in the 2016 election. This legislation, which was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in the House of Representatives, was approved in the Senate by a vote of 98-2 and now heads to the President's desk for his signature.

“President Trump must sign this legislation into law immediately to show he has the conviction and courage to stand up to our adversaries,” said Blumenthal. “At a moment when Congress is at its most divisive, the overwhelmingly bipartisan passage of strict sanctions against Russia, Iran, and North Korea is a testament to the indisputable desire to hold these rogue regimes accountable for their persistent, destabilizing activity. The passage of this legislation sends a strong signal to any country seeking to disrupt international order and security: America will not stand for such attempts and will respond with exacting economic pain.”
