(Hartford, CT) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement today on his vote in support of the two-year bipartisan budget agreement, which the Senate passed by a vote of 64 to 35:
“Connecticut’s economy benefits from smart, targeted financial commitments to our future – not from mindless sequester cuts and certainly not from repeated budgetary brinksmanship. This bipartisan agreement will allow for increased investments in our highway and rail infrastructure, local aerospace and defense manufacturing, and the public health and education programs on which so many Connecticut families depend. This deal represents both a breakthrough for rational budgeting and hope for bipartisan cooperation on fiscal issues in the future. By reducing the threats of government shutdown and preventing disastrous default on our obligations, we can keep focused on economic growth and job creation in Connecticut and across the country.”
