(Hartford, CT) – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued a statement in response to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision to uphold an injunction against UnitedHealth Group (UHG) until March 7 that will prevent the nation’s largest insurer from eliminating doctors from its Medicare Advantage network. The March 7 deadline will give affected doctors time to file for an arbitration hearing.
“This decision is a victory for both health care and justice – patients and doctors. I will continue to fight for basic fairness and patient choice to assure access to quality care. The Second Circuit’s decision protects patients and providers by prohibiting UnitedHealth Group from prematurely purging thousands of providers from its networks without adequate notice to patients. As my amicus brief noted, the insurer’s actions have very real and detrimental effects on patients.”
