Blumenthal Statement on Protecting 13,300 Connecticut Teamster Pensions

[Hartford, CT] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released a statement today following an announcement from President Biden that over 600,000 Teamster workers and retirees’ pensions were protected from devastating cuts. This includes 13,300 Teamsters in Connecticut.

“This is tremendous news for 13,300 Teamster workers and retirees in Connecticut whose hard-earned pensions are now protected.  Thousands of Connecticut residents worked for many years to secure a safe and dependable income as they grow older, and a 75 percent cut would have had potentially catastrophic results for families,” Blumenthal said. “Thanks to President Biden and funding from the American Rescue Plan, Connecticut Teamsters can retire with dignity and stability. No one should work for decades and only receive 25 percent of their rightfully earned pension. I was proud to support the Butch Lewis Emergency Pension Plan Relief Act when it was passed in 2021 and am thrilled to see our efforts in action — making a difference in the lives of Connecticut workers.”
