Blumenthal Statement on Proposed Net Neutrality Repeal

[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) issued the following statement today after Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai announced a proposed vote on the complete repeal of rules ensuring the neutrality and openness of the internet, known as “net neutrality.”

“Repealing the longstanding rules that have created a neutral internet strikes a blow at the heart of free speech and American innovation and competition,” said Blumenthal. “This dangerous rollback will allow the most powerful internet service providers to exert unchecked control over commerce and even speech on the internet. Chairman Pai’s dangerous proposal has the power to decimate small businesses that rely on e-commerce, and restrict online content and access deemed unfavorable by ISPs – or their political allies. I call on my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to recognize the internet as a fundamental vehicle for equality and fight for rules that would ensure the internet remains open.”
