Blumenthal Statement on President-Elect Biden's Key Health & COVID-19 Response Nominees and Appointments

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after President-elect Joe Biden announced key members of his health and COVID-19 response team, including the nomination of California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to be Secretary of Health and Human Services and the appointment of Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith to Chair the COVID-19 Equity Task Force:

“This is a stellar team of doctors, scientists, and crisis-tested public health advocates. The next few months will be especially challenging, and it is a relief to know a group of such highly talented and deeply qualified public servants will be seeing us through. As a former state Attorney General myself, I know well how much of that job is spent on health care policy and the management skills it requires to achieve real, concrete results. This experience gives me full confidence in Attorney General Becerra’s qualifications for this new role. I am proud to see Yale School of Medicine’s own Dr. Nunez-Smith in a leadership role on the Biden Administration’s COVID-19 Equity Task Force. Staffing this new task force with such an impressive slate of experts shows the Biden Administration’s commitment to tackling health disparities that have gone unaddressed for far too long.”
