Blumenthal Statement on Pope Francis's Address to Congress

(WASHINGTON, DC) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement on Pope Francis’s address to Congress this morning:

“As deeply moving as his powerful message was Pope Francis’s person – radiating humility and humanity. Even in the majestic, monumental House chamber, his warmth, faith, humor and compassion were all-embracing, indeed incandescent. Especially striking was his riveting appeal for social justice and peace – saving the planet, stopping cycles of poverty and violence, welcoming immigrants and refugees to America, the land of dreams. My hope is that this profoundly powerful message moves Congress to action, recognizing the common good that Pope Francis evoked so eloquently.

“This day was uniquely memorable and moving – truly inspiring.”
