Blumenthal Statement On NTSB Investigative Hearing To Be Held On Metro-North Derailment, Collision

(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement after the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced that it will hold an investigative hearing October 22-23 on the Metro-North derailment and collision:

“This hearing is an important step forward in improving rail safety and reliability, continuing progress made earlier this year when Metro-North implemented its life-saving shunt pilot program. Metro-North has informed me that it is installing new communications systems and track and joint upgrades that reflect important progress in safety and reliability. At the hearing and afterward, I will continue to press for these investments and others crucial to transportation for commuters and goods, and key to jobs and economic growth. Lessons learned from recent incidents in Connecticut can help the entire nation.”
