(Hartford, CT) – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued a statement in response to National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre’s remark “let them be damned." LaPierre made the remark today about critics of the pro-gun organization during a speech at the NRA's national conference.
"When the NRA's leader says 'let them be damned,' he's talking to 90 percent of Americans who support criminal background checks and other common sense gun violence prevention measures," Blumenthal said. "His extremist vitriol disgraces the organization and its members – many of them supporters of background checks. Celebrating and reveling in the defeat of sensible gun safety laws truly shames the NRA."
