(Washington, DC) – Today, Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) issued the following statement on National Equal Pay Day, which recognizes the fact that since the passage of the Equal Pay Act in 1963, women continue to earn significantly less than men on average. On average, in 2010, women earned 77 percent of what their male colleagues earned, and in Connecticut, women earned 76 percent.
“In Connecticut in 2010, women earned 76 percent of what men earned on average – clearly showing the need to continue this fight even 49 years after the passage of the Equal Pay Act. I will continue to fight to close this gap so women finally earn equal pay for equal work. I am proud to join with courageous colleagues like Rosa DeLauro, who has led this historic effort.”
