Blumenthal Statement On MTA Decision To Move Forward With Video Cameras On Trains

Outward and Inward-Facing Video Cameras Will Be Installed On Trains For Both Metro-North And Long-Island Railroads

(Hartford, CT) – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) decision to move forward on a plan to install outward- and inward-facing video and audio recorders on its trains, following up on a recommendation by the National Transportation Safety Board. These cameras will be installed on trains for both Metro-North and Long Island railroads. Both Blumenthal and U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) have called on the MTA to install such cameras.

“I welcome this step – responding to my repeated calls for such cameras – even if long overdue and lacking in deadlines. I urge Metro-North to provide a date certain for installing the cameras – and continue to urge the FRA to order them.”
