(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement after the Senate, by a vote of 48-52, voted down an amendment by Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) to remove language defunding Planned Parenthood from H.R. 3762, the bill currently being considered on the floor:
“Just days after the horrific attack on the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood, Senate Republicans today pushed ahead with their effort to prevent millions of American women from accessing safe, affordable and basic health care services. Despite the millions of women and families that rely on Planned Parenthood for basic health care screenings, cancer diagnoses, family planning and contraception, the repugnant and reprehensible efforts by the anti-choice movement continue. To be clear, defunding Planned Parenthood would create an urgent, destructive public health crisis. We must end this continued, disgraceful assault on women’s health.”
