Blumenthal Statement on House-Senate Agreement on Payroll Tax Cut

(Hartford, CT) – Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after House Republicans announced that they would accept the Senate’s bipartisan compromise on the payroll tax cut.

“Hard-working families in Connecticut and across the nation can breathe easier knowing that they will not wake up to a tax hike in the New Year,” said Blumenthal. “The fight continues to secure a meaningful payroll tax cut for the middle class and unemployment insurance for jobless Americans. We must move forward on a year-long compromise to extend these critical provisions and provide middle-class families and businesses in Connecticut with the certainty and security they deserve and strengthen a fragile economic recovery. The sooner this agreement is fulfilled by the House, the stronger and sooner the economy will progress.”
