Blumenthal Statement On HHS Decision To Improve Management, Accountability Of Aca Website Ahead Of 2015 Open Enrollment Period

(Hartford, CT) – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Burwell announced a series of personnel changes at HHS to improve management and accountability of the healthcare.gov website and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act ahead of the 2015 open enrollment period. In November, Blumenthal led a letter urging HHS to appoint an executive officer to manage the day-to-day operations of healthcare.gov.

“Today’s personnel announcements and the creation of new HHS positions shows that Secretary Burwell is acting quickly to address concerns I raised in November about the need to appoint an executive officer to focus on the day-to-day operations of healthcare.gov. Secretary Burwell today took a positive, proactive step in the right direction, showing again the Administration’s commitment to ensuring functionality of the website and continued successful implementation of this historic, life-changing law.”
