Blumenthal Statement on Final $663 Million Judgement Against Trinity Guardrails

(Washington, DC) – Today, Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement after a U.S. District Judge affirmed an earlier jury verdict finding that Trinity Highway Products defrauded taxpayers of millions of dollars through material misrepresentations about the safety of its products:

“This ruling confirms that immediate remedies are necessary to take reprehensibly dangerous guardrails off our roads. After this decision, leaving no doubt about legal culpability, the FHWA must urgently locate, test, and replace all fraudulently approved Trinity guardrails. The Department of Justice must investigate whether Trinity’s thousands of false assurances and concealment amounted to criminal conduct. Additionally, the Department of Transportation must reform its process for approving roadside hardware for federal reimbursement to ensure deception is forestalled in the future.”
