Senator calls for swift passage of the Dream Act
[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after a federal judge ordered the Trump Administration to halt its wind down of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and resume accepting renewal applications:
“Once again, the courts have been a bulwark for basic rights and the rule of law— but this reprieve is no final remedy. We must redouble our determination to protect these 800,000 young people from draconian mass deportation, a continuing threat as long as President Trump refuses to reverse his cruel, unconscionable policies. A federal judge has struck down Trump’s order as unconstitutional but a Dream Act is no less necessary, and Congress should waste no time in swiftly passing clean legislation to protect these young people.”
