(Washington, DC) – Today, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) released the following statement after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it is soliciting public comment on its policy regarding menthol cigarettes, which have been the subject of a years-long review:
“Today’s announcement is a step in the right direction. FDA has a responsibility to protect the public health, and that means that existing tobacco products for which there is scientific evidence of increased risk of addiction, including menthol cigarettes that disproportionally appeal to young people, should be removed from the marketplace. I will continue to fight against these harmful products that endanger the health of all Americans.”
