Blumenthal Statement on FDA Approval of the Second COVID-19 Vaccine

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted emergency use authorization to Moderna for its COVID-19 vaccine:

“This is another historic scientific triumph that will save more lives. The approval of Moderna’s safe and effective vaccine comes at a critical time, instantly tripling our country’s available vaccinations. The Moderna vaccine’s superb temperature stability will help reach even more Americans, especially those in rural areas. With record-setting COVID-19 cases and deaths, the great challenge ahead is to speedily scale up manufacturing, strengthen supply chains, build public confidence, and continue pursuing more versions of the vaccine. This demands a major federal investment, necessary to combat this pandemic and rebuild the economy for the sake of the American people.”
