Blumenthal Statement on DOD Concerns Over Lockheed Martin Acquisition of Sikorsky Aircraft

(WASHINGTON, DC) – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement after the Department of Defense voiced concerns over Lockheed Martin’s purchase of Sikorsky Aircraft:

I am sympathetic and sensitive to the Pentagon’s very valid concerns that further consolidation could adversely impact the innovation, competition and value that have been the hallmark of Sikorsky helicopters for almost a century. I urge Lockheed to use this acquisition to immediately invest in Stratford to develop additional helicopter variants for our military and grow the skilled competitive workforce in Connecticut that make the best helicopters in the world. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I look forward to working with the Secretary of Defense to provide the necessary authorities to preserve the strength and diversity of the defense industrial base.
