Blumenthal Statement on Disclosure of Drug Company Payments to Doctors

(Hartford, CT) – Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) today made the following statement in response to the White House’s announcement that they will enforce regulations outlined under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that will require drug companies to disclose payments they make to doctors for various services.

“These long overdue requirements, integral pieces of health care reform, will help foster transparency when it comes to doctors and the funds they receive from drug companies. Patients need and deserve this important information,” said Blumenthal. “These rules, fiercely championed by Senators Kohl and Grassley in the Senate, will educate consumers and further cement the incentive for doctors to make decisions in the best interest of their patient’s health without being compromised by outside influence, ultimately reducing long term health care costs. I thank the Senators for their hard work and persistence in ensuring that these critical reporting requirements are enforced.”
