[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) today released the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm Dr. Heather Wilson to be Secretary of the Air Force.
“While I respect Dr. Heather Wilson’s military and public service, I am resolutely opposed to having a Secretary of the Air Force weighed down by conflicts of interest and a history of skirting lobbying restrictions. I provided Dr. Wilson with the opportunity to explain her questionable conduct as a federal contractor at her confirmation hearing. Not only did she fail to explain her past behavior, she continued to defend it and would not pledge to hold contractors to a higher standard. Accountability starts at the top. This Administration is already overburdened with conflicts of interests and an inability to end them. We must and can do better.”
