[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) letter sent to cruise lines, which indicated the CDC could allow sailing to restart by mid-July depending on compliance with the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order:
“Prematurely resuming cruise ship operations remains risky. Our country has made significant strides in combatting COVID and any outbreaks aboard ships could mean a serious setback. With thousands onboard in close proximity for long stretches of time, CDC must be vigilant and ensure cruise lines play by the rules. CDC must follow the facts and science, acting swiftly in case of any signs of unsafe conditions jeopardizing public health.”
