[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) released the following statement regarding reports of a deal to protect Dreamers. Although there were conflicting reports this morning about the framework of an agreement reached last night between President Trump and Democratic leaders, the President reaffirmed this afternoon that “We’re working on a plan for DACA.”
“Despite earlier conflicting reports, this hopeful and promising step should lead to a bipartisan agreement protecting Dreamers and avoiding a self-inflicted, immoral catastrophe of mass deportation. Ending the DACA program and failing to pass the Dream Act would break apart families and deprive our nation of hundreds of thousands of hardworking, skilled, and dedicated young people. The Dreamers know only this country, speak this language, and have friends and family here. I am very encouraged by this step, and will work with my colleagues on bipartisan legislation that gives Dreamers a sense of security and clarity.”
