Blumenthal Praises Increase in Social Security Cost of Living

(Washington, DC) – Senator Richard Blumenthal praised the increase in the Monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for more than 60 million beneficiaries. The Social Security Administration announced that recipients will see a 3.6 percent increase in their benefits in 2012.

Blumenthal said, “An increase in the cost-of-living for our Social Security recipients is long overdue and welcome. Strengthening this vital safety net means keeping faith with our seniors and assuring that beneficiaries receive full and fair benefits. Our seniors have paid into Social Security and have been promised benefits so they can pay their monthly bills on prescriptions, food, and housing.”

The cost-of-living has not been increased since 2009.
