[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) responded today to President Trump’s new “blueprint” to lower prescription drug prices:
“This speech was more broken promises and missed opportunities. While Americans are being crushed by skyrocketing prescription drug costs, President Trump dramatically unveiled a long overdue “blueprint” to lower drug prices so sparse on details that it will do next to nothing to actually bring down costs. President Trump failed to deliver on a commonsense solution to truly address ballooning costs namely by allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices. Ending the Medicare straightjacket and enabling the program to negotiate lower prices was one of President Trump’s central campaign promises, and it is nowhere to be found in this so-called plan. If President Trump plans on actually keeping his promise to lower drug prices, he should consult Congressional Democrats about our numerous substantive policy proposals to actually achieve that goal.”
