[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), one of the lead plaintiffs in a lawsuit to hold President Trump accountable for violations of the Foreign Emoluments Clause, released the following statement after Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney announced that next year’s G7 summit will be held at President Trump’s resort in Doral, Florida:
“Our Founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves. Holding an international summit of world leaders at the President’s resort is not just a conflict of interest, it is unconstitutional.”
“These world leaders and their staff won’t be staying at Trump’s resort for free. The money made and the free promotion from this international event will line the President and his family’s wallets – and it won’t be pocket change. What are the chances that out of all the hotels in the country, the G7 leadership chose President Trump’s? Actually, there’s a pretty simple explanation: corruption.”
